Two Androids escape an Earth on the brink of destruction from warring atheists and a religious group called the Mithraic. They land on the planet Kepler-22b, and transport human embryos that they intend to bring up unshaped by religion. But twelve years later, only one child, Campion, has survived. When the Mithraic land a ship on Kepler-22b, Mother, in disagreement with Father about whether their human son should return to them, starts to act concerningly.
