A Darkly Comedic And Emotionally Rich Mystery Anchored By Performances
Neighborhood Watch is a grounded but effective riff on the mystery genre that feels as indebted to the Coen Brothers as much as it does the darker films it evokes. The movie is largely focused on Simon and Ed, an unlikely pair who come together to investigate a potential kidnapping that the mentally ill Simon believes he saw. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is deceptively hilarious in the film, which only draws more attention to the care and craft that Jack Quaid is able to bring to Simon. A clever riff on mystery thrillers that loses its unique voice, Neighborhood Watch is a quietly great flick.
