Synopsis

The origin story of the atomic bomb

 The film tells the tale of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist. Oppenheimer was a leading figure of the Manhattan Project – a codename for the effort to develop weapons strong enough to lead the Allied Forces to victory and tightly secure the United States role as a world’s super power. The events of the film take place during the Second World War while Oppenheimer worked for the Los Alamos Laboratory where the bombs were created.

Oppenheimer is a biographical drama film produced by Universal Pictures and Syncopy Inc. The movie is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, American Prometheus: The Triumph And Tragedy Of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Oppenheimer is written and directed by the acclaimed British filmmaker Christopher Nolan.  His previous work includes Memento, The Dark Knight, Inception, and Tenet. While Warner Bros. were previously his primary partners in film distribution and financing, Oppenheimer marks the first time the director makes a movie with Universal Pictures.

Starring in the biopic are Cillian Murphy as the titular J. Robert Oppenheimer. Murphy is known for his roles in previous Christopher Nolan movies such as Dunkirk, Batman Begins while also leading the television series, Peaky Blinders. Opposite him is Emily Blunt playing Katherine 'Kitty' Oppenheimer. She is best known for her roles in A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. The star-studded ensemble cast behind them includes Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Kenneth Branagh amongst others.
