"The Archies puts a new spin on Archie Comics by bringing readers' favorite characters to India in a musical and politically-charged story. It's familiar enough that viewers will feel nostalgia as they watch Archie (Agastya Nanda) and the gang get up to their usual high school antics. However, there's a hint of newness in the unique soundtrack that mixes 60s rock n' roll with Bollywood music and in the students being aware of social and political issues. The film is ultimately a very Archie Comics-reminiscent project, elevated by catchy tunes and interesting political commentary."

Synopsis

What to know
The Archies is an Indian musical comedy movie based on the American comic book series The Archies. The movie is produced by Tiger Baby Films and Graphic India. The creator of the comics Bob Montana and John L. Goldwater are credited as writers. The screenplay is written by Ayesha DeVitre, Reema Kagti, and Zoya Akhtar. Akhtar is also the director of the movie and is known for having written and directed the movies Gully Boy and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Poornamrita Singh handles the costume design, having worked on The Darjeeling Limited, Life of Pi, and Gully Boy.
Based on the exploits of the fictional rock band, the main cast includes musician and vocalist Aditi Dot. Young filmmaker Agastya Nanda makes his acting debut. Khushi Kapoor also stars in the movie alongside model and actor Mihir Ahuja. Suhana Khan, daughter of Bollywood icon Shahrukh Khan, stars in The Archies with Vedang Raina marking his first on-screen appearance. Yuvraj Menda rounds out the cast of young hopefuls many of whom are the offspring of Bollywood superstars. The Archies was released on the streaming platform Netflix on December 7th, 2023.
