Euphoria-creator and The Weeknd team up for this television take on the music industry
The Idol Season 1 is a drama television series created for HBO by The Weeknd, Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim. The show marks the first television work for executive producer The Weeknd who is also starring in one of the main roles of the show. He portrays Tedros, a nightclub owner with dark secrets, and plays opposite Lily-Rose Depp as the rising pop star Jocelyn. The first season is not short on musical cameos; K-Pop icon, Jennie Kim from Blackpink; the legendary producer, engineer, and musician Mike Dean; and indie darling Moses Sumney.
Lifting the lid on the music industry, the show itself has suffered a slew of behind-the-scenes changes, reshoots, new cast members, and even new directors. The production and filming have revolved around the touring priorities of The Weeknd. Co-creator Sam Levinson is the current director of the show after Amy Seimetz departed from the production. The Idol Season 1 was released on June 4th, 2023 on HBO Max. You can keep up with the latest streaming news about The Idol Season 1 here on JustWatch.
