Synopsis
Everything has changed and the mission hangs in the balance – now more than ever before.
IMF agent, Ethan Hunt returns to finish what was started. Alongside his trusted team, Hunt is seeking to put an end to the threat that still looms large over the world. But things have changed and great losses have been suffered. The battle for truth and freedom will test Ethan Hunt to his limit. With so much on the line for the inimitable IMF agent, his task is harder and more personal than ever. If he is going to protect not just the people that he loves but the ideals that he strives for he will have to be careful but also daring; quick but also precise. What is Mission: Impossible 8 about?
Mission: Impossible 8 is an upcoming action spy film that is the final movie in the Mission Impossible franchise and a direct sequel to Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. The two-part finale sees a return to directorial duties for action maestro Christopher McQuarrie with another pulsating score by Lorne Balfe. McQuarrie is a long-time collaborator with the lead actor, producer, and Hollywood legend, Tom Cruise who has been iconic in the role of Ethan Hunt since the 1996 original. Cruise is known to use the series as a way to explore increasingly daring and impressive stunts that he performs himself on camera.
Who stars in Mission: Impossible 8?
Mission: Impossible 8 sees more familiar faces return. The loveable Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg are back as Luther Stickell and Benji Dunn respectively. The pair play loyal members of Hunt’s Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team. Henry Czerny is back as former IMF director Eugene Kittridge. Rebecca Ferguson is Ilsa Faust, once an M16 agent now an ally for Hunt and his team. Hayley Atwell is the ambiguous, Grace while Vanessa Kirby reprises her role as Alanna Mitsopolis - the White Widow. Continuing as the villain of the piece from his role in Part One is Esai Morales who returns as the cunning threat at the heart of the movie. Shea Whigham, Charles Parnell, Pom Klementieff, Mark Gatiss, and Rolf Saxon are also in the cast.
Who are the new cast members of Mission: Impossible 8?
Mission: Impossible 8 features a host of new cast members. Emmy Award-winners Nick Offerman and Hannah Waddingham both bring additional star power to the movie. While Katy O'Brian, Holt McCallany, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Tamell Tillman, and Janet McTeer all join the franchise for the first time.
Is Mission: Impossible 8 the final movie in the franchise?
Initial reports suggested that the franchise would end with a two-part finale and that Mission: Impossible 8 would mark the end of the series. However it has since been suggested by filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie that the future of the franchise is not certain and that ninth movie could happen.
Is Mission: Impossible 8 the same as Dead Reckoning Part 2?
The movie was initially titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 but in October 2023 the subtitle of the movie was removed. The movie continues the story of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.
Is Mission: Impossible 8 shot in IMAX?
The movie is shot partially with IMAX-certified cameras. Upon release the movie has a three week exclusive run in IMAX theaters.
