Synopsis
Society of the Snow is based on the true story of the 1972 Andes flight crash and those who survived to tell the tale
An Uruguayan rugby team traveling on a flight across the Andes suffers the most terrible fate. A plane crash leaves the surviving members of the team stranded on a glacier. Trapped in the mountains with temperatures that sometimes go as low as 40 below zero, the survivors have no way to reach the outside world. When help eventually does come, it’s over two and a half months after the initial crash. What the rescuers discover is one of the most extraordinary stories of survival ever told.

The movie is an adaptation of the book The Snow Society: The Definitive Account of the World’s Greatest Survival Story by Pablo Vierci. The movie is written and directed by J.A. Bayona who is best known for the movies The Impossible, A Monster Calls, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Bernat Vilaplana, Jamie Marques, and Nicolas Casariego are credited as co-screenwriters. The movie features music from acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino. Society of the Snow is produced by Mision de Audaces FIlms and El Arriero Films for Netflix.
Society of the Snow features a large cast of mostly newcomer actors and actresses from Uruguay and Argentina. Enzo Vogrincic Roldan stars as Numa Tucratti. Marias Recalt features as Robert Canessa. Augustin Pardella plays Nando Parrado while Tomas Wolf plays Gustavo Zerbino. Diego Vegezzi stars as Marcelo Perez del Castillo while Esteban Kukuriczka plays Fito.
