Indie filmmaker Matt Johnson tackles the rise and fall of tech titan BlackBerry
Blackberry is a tech drama movie produced by Rhombus Media and Zapruder Films. The movie is based on the book Losing the Signal by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff which charts the rise and fall of the mobile phone company Blackberry. The movie is directed by Canadian filmmaker Matt Johnson, who is known for the independent conspiracy thriller Operation Avalanche. Johnson co-wrote the screenplay with Matthew Miller and stars in the movie as BlackBerry co-founder Douglas Fregin.
BlackBerry features Jay Baruchel portraying the original co-founder of the company, Mike Lazaridis. He is joined by Glenn Howerton who plays CEO Jim Balsillie. Cary Elwes, Saul Rubinek, Michael Ironside, Rich Sommer, SungWon Cho, and Michelle Giroux are in the expanded cast.
