Star Trek: Section 31 (2025)

Star Trek: Section 31 is quite far removed from the Star Trek universe, leaning more towards the action and spy thriller genres than sci-fi. The new direction may put off long-time fans accustomed to the complex sci-fi premise or social commentary. However, casual fans and even newcomers will enjoy the entertainment value and Michelle Yeoh's solid return as Philippa Georgiou. Longtime fans will also appreciate the expansion of Georgiou's story and an exciting end cameo. Ultimately, Star Trek: Section 31 is perfect for viewers looking for a light-hearted, twisty Star Trek movie that capitalizes on fun and Yeoh's acting prowess.

Full disclosure… Star Trek: Section 31 is getting some mixed reviews, and it’s largely because the film was originally supposed to be an entire series. Luckily, despite its somewhat off-balance pacing, the movie is tons of fun thanks to its neon colors, great costumes, wild premise, and fantastic performance from Michelle Yeoh (who is reprising her character from season 1 of Star Trek: Discovery). Don’t go into the movie expecting an Oscar-winner, just go in expecting some seriously fun and bonkers sci-fi action and you’ll have a blast.
