Bridgerton Season 3 is a period romance drama series produced by Shondaland and distributed on Netflix. Bridgerton Season 3 is based on the novel Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn. Jess Brownell serves as the showrunner for the third season taking over from series creator Chris Van Duse.
Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley star as star couple Anthony and Kate Bridgerton. Colin Bridgerton is played by Luke Newton while Nicola Coughlan stars as Penelope Featherington. Harriet Cains and Bessie Carter portray Philipa and Prudence Featherington. The wider cast includes Florence Hunt, Claudie Jessie, Luke Thompson, Polly Walker, Adjoa Andoh, Golda Rosheuval, and Julie Andrews.
Bridgerton Season 3 suffered delays in production due to strikes in the industry. The third season was initially set to be released in December 2023 but was pushed back to 2024.
While Bridgerton Season 2 was in production, the show was renewed on Netflix for Season 3 and Season 4. The show is based on the Bridgerton novels of which there are eight major books, therefore the television show has more material to adapt.
Much to the disappointment of fans, the Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett does not feature in the third season. Played by Rege-Jean Page, the actor confirmed that he would not be returning to the Bridgerton franchise and even invited the showrunners to recast his character.
Phoebe Dynevor who plays Daphne Bridgerton is not returning for the third season. Edwina Sharma is another absentee from the cast. Hannah Dodd replaces Ruby Stokes in the role of Francesa Bridgerton.
While the costumes and setting of the show give it the feel of an authentic period piece, Bridgerton is not historically accurate in the diverse casting. Some rituals of courtship and culture are based on real historical practices from the Regency Era and many storylines are fictionalized versions of true events. Overall, Bridgerton is a stylized vision of the past and takes some liberties for the sake of entertainment.
Bridgerton Season 3 is set to be released in two parts. The first four episodes was released on Netflix on May 16. The second half of Bridgerton Season 3 will be released on June 16 and include the final four episodes.
