Mina is stranded and alone in a wild and endless forest in western Ireland. When she discovers a building, she takes shelter with three other people inside. She soon learns that strange creatures watch them through a huge wall that is reflective on the inside but transparent to the outside. Every night, the creatures gather at the window and watch as the people live helplessly under their gaze.
The Watchers is an upcoming supernatural horror movie based on the book of the same name written by A.M. Shine. The movie is directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan in her directorial debut. She has previously directed episodes of the series Servant as well as having been a second unit director on movies such as Old and Knock at the Cabin. The Watchers is produced by Ashwin Rajan, Nimitt Mankad, and M. Night Shyamalan, the director’s father.
The screenplay for the movie is written by Ishana Night Shyamalan. She is credited alongside author A.M. Shine. Shyamalan has previously written episodes of the acclaimed series Servant, and The Watchers marks her first feature length script.
The Watchers is based on the book of the same name written by A.M. Shine. The Irish Gothic novel was first published in 2022. By early 2023, the movie based on the novel was first announced by New Line.
The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning in the lead role as Mina. Fanning is known for her roles in Ocean’s 8, The Equalizer 3, and Coraline. She is joined in the cast by Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouere.
The movie was filmed on location in Ireland. Filming took place between Dublin, Wicklow, Bray, and Galway. The Watchers was one of few movies to be granted an agreement to continue filming during the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Composer Abel Korzeniowski is handling the music and sound for the movie. The Polish composer has worked on movies such as A Single Man, Nocturnal Animals, and Emily.
