Synopsis
The past echoes in the future as humanity faces a terrifying new threat
Amidst the chaos of the Cultural Revolution in China, a secret military group sends signals to outer space. In the present day, those signals result in the slow arrival of an alien species. The approach of the mysterious life forms sends Earth into a panic. Humanity is split, divided on how to engage with the extraterrestrials. While some want to fight what they believe is inevitable domination, others are ready to give up the planet to a superior life form. Throughout the crisis, conspiracies and mysteries unravel leaving nothing as it first appears.

Weiss. They are joined by Alexander Woo who is known for writing episodes of True Blood as well as The Terror. Derek Tsang is responsible for directing the 3 Body Problem Season 1 pilot episode.
