7 Shows to watch while you wait for Mirzapur Season 3

  1. Guns and Gulaabs

Set in the quaint drug-ridden town of Gulabganj, Guns and Gulaabs is another heartland crime drama starring Rajkumar Rao and Dulquer Salamaan in the lead, and bears heavy resemblance with Mirzapur.

Both the shows involve a lot of guns, drugs, and violence. Based in the late 90’s, Guns and Gulaabs induces a strong wave of nostalgia. Produced by Raj and DK, this crime-thriller leans more towards dark comedy, and is an ideal watch for those looking for something that washes down the violence of gang based shows like Mirzapur with a dose of dark humor.

Where to watch: Guns and Gulaabs is currently streaming on Netflix.

  1. Bambai Meri Jaan

Another Amazon original on the list, this crime-thriller series is based on the bestselling Hussain Zaidi novel Dongri to Dubai. The series stars Avinash Tiwari as Dara, the son of an honest cop who grows up to become one of the most feared mafia leaders in Bombay, and Kay Kay Menon as Ismail Kadri, his father, from whose perspective we see the entire story unfold. Though the names have been changed, this series is based on the real life story of Dawood Ibrahim, one of the most famous underworld personalities in India. While this series is more urban than Mirzapur, it packs in the same level of crime, drama, and heat as its rural counterpart.

Where to watch: Bambai Meri Jaan is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

  1. Rangbaaz

Looking for something that’s as close to Mirzapur as possible? Check out Rangbaaz. The series is based on the life of Shri Prakash Shukla, and is set in the 90’s in a small town on the outskirts of Uttar Pradesh. The show chronicles the gangster's life from his early days in college, to the brutal events that lead up to his entry into a life of crime.

Where to watch: Rangbaaz is currently streaming on Zee5.

  1. Criminal Justice

Watch Bablu and Kaleen Bhaiyya team up again in Criminal Justice. Starring the winning duo of Vikrant Massey and Pankaj Tripathi together, Criminal Justice is a crime-drama about a cab driver who finds himself becoming the prime suspect for the murder of his mysterious one night stand. While this show shares some of the same cast members as Mirzapur, it differs in genre and themes as the show leans more towards mystery and thriller as compared to the grunge and gore of Mirzapur.

Where to watch: Criminal Justice is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

  1. Sacred Games

If Mirzapur is Coke then Sacred Games is Pepsi. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui - Sacred Games is one of the few crime thrillers that goes head on with Mirzapur’s star-studded ensemble. Both shows play around the themes of drugs, violence, sex, and gangster life. They’re also the two most famous Indian OTT web-series competing against each other on prime competing streaming platforms: Netflix and Amazon. The series is based on the cat and mouse chase between a relentless police officer and an unhinged gangster.

Where to watch: Sacred Games is currently streaming on Netflix.

  1. Aarya

Love the female characters in Mirzapur? Check out Aarya, starring Sushmita Sen as the titular character, this series documents the life of a grieving widow who joins a mafia gang to avenge the death of her husband. Tracing Aarya’s journey from being an innocent homemaker to a fierce and fearful mafia queen, this show conveys the same raw, power-hungry energy as Mirzapur.

Where to watch: Aarya is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

  1. Kohrra

Remember the iconic opening scene of Mirzapur where Munna accidentally shoots a groom while attending a wedding? Kohrra is a show based on the aftermath of such events. This crime-drama unpacks the police case investigating the untimely and sudden death of a bridegroom just days before his wedding. Set in the outskirts of India, Kohraa, is also a heartland drama brimming with dark humor, violent outbursts, and a ton of high intensity action-packed drama.

Where to watch: Kohraa is currently streaming on Netflix.
