This new South Korean series was first released on Disney+ on August 9. The series is based on the webtoon Kang Full, and follows the story of three teenagers who discover that both they and their parents have superpowers. When a shadowy organisation starts to hunt each of them down, the parents must come out of their low-key retirements and work together to keep each other safe, help their kids master their powers, and find out who is trying to eliminate them — and why.

#9 Harlan Coben’s Shelter

With the first two episodes airing on Amazon Prime Video on August 18, Harlan Coben’s Shelter is just getting started. The series is based on author Harlan Coben’s 2011 young adult novel Shelter, and focuses on the story of Mickey Bolitar. Mickey’s life is upended when his father is killed in a car accident and he is sent to live with his aunt in New Jersey. Although he finds a new friend in Ashley, she suddenly disappears, leaving Mickey and his two friends Spoon and Ema to solve the mystery that is seemingly intertwined with Mickey’s family.

#8 The Killing Vote

This ongoing K-drama recently started airing on Amazon Prime Video in the UK. The series depicts a morally ambiguous form of vigilante justice carried out by a man in a dog mask known only as Gaetal. The man conducts polls in which members of the public vote to decide if a person who previously escaped punishment should be put to death. If over 50% of the public vote yes, Gaetal executes them. Meanwhile, a detective (Park Hae-jin) and a cyber bureau officer (Lim Ji-yeon) seek to find the man behind the mask.

#7 Hijack

This thrilling 7-part miniseries stars Idris Elba as Sam Nelson, a professional negotiator who finds himself pulling out all the stops when his flight from Dubai to London is hijacked. Nelson must find a way to diffuse the situation using only his savvy diplomatic skills to ensure they all land safely and the hijackers are brought to justice.

#6 Yellowstone

Yellowstone tells the story of the Dutton family (Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, and others) as they run the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in Montana, USA. Bordering Yellowstone National Park and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, the ranchers must work to keep the peace with their neighbours, fend off developers, and keep the ranch running smoothly.

After experiencing some turbulence on a flight from Jamaica to New York, the passengers are shocked to discover after landing that they have been missing and presumed dead for five years. As they work to reintegrate back into their lives and families, the passengers begin to experience visions that come to be known as “callings”.

#4 The Last of Us

After its premiere earlier in 2023, The Last of Us dominated television screens for weeks and received much critical acclaim. The post-apocalyptic series based on the Naughty Dog video games of the same name takes place 20 years after the start of a pandemic caused by a fungus that turns those infected into zombie-like creatures. After years of chaos, hope is on the horizon in the form of an immune teenager named Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The series focuses on the smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal) and his mission to bring Ellie across the country to a group working on a vaccine.

#3 The Bear

The second season of The Bear aired its finale at the end of July. The series follows the story of world-famous chef Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), after he moves back to Chicago in the wake of his brother’s suicide with the intention of creating a fine dining restaurant called The Bear out of his family’s old Italian beef sandwich shop. Along the way, Carmy must confront his past and learn to work with others if he wants to bring his dream to fruition.

#2 Painkiller

Painkiller tells the origin story of the powerful pain medication OxyContin, and how the proliferation of the drug started the devastating opioid crisis in the US. At the heart of the story is the Sackler family and their company Purdue Pharma, who are being investigated by Edie Flowers (Uzo Aduba) for the role they played in the crisis. Matthew Broderick stars as Richard Sackler, the president and chairman of Pursue Pharma.
