Fans of the Max original series Doom Patrol have anxiously awaited the release of its remaining half of season 4 since the beginning of this year. The head of DC Studios himself finally provided an update on its status and thankfully for series devotees, it is good news.

In a recent post on Threads, James Gunn confirmed that the final episodes of Doom Patrol will eventually release, even though there is presently no specific release date for season 4, part 2:

“I now have confirmation: As I surmised, no, Doom Patrol episodes are absolutely NOT being shelved, even though the premiere date for the next shows hasn’t yet been announced to the public.”

Many have expressed concerns about the show's concluding part, considering the past cancellations of notable DC projects and the removal of content from Max. Gunn’s post brings reassurance to fans by confirming that the remaining episodes of Doom Patrol have not been abandoned. This news is particularly encouraging for those who have experienced the disappointment of their favorite properties being abruptly canceled by the streaming service.

The first half of the fourth season made its debut on Max in December 2022 and new episodes were released weekly until January 5. Following a mid-season break, it was announced that Doom Patrol's fourth season would be its final season, meaning the forthcoming six episodes in part 2 will serve as the series' conclusion.

Joivan Wade, who stars as Cyborg in the series, has previously stated that Doom Patrol's fourth season will have a "great finish." He mentioned that the second half of season 4 will provide fans with a satisfying "full circle" moment, effectively serving as a fitting series finale for the show:

"It's satisfactory for the fans, which I felt was most important. It upsets me when shows don't get the opportunity to close the chapter, to allow the fans to feel whole and healed and like they've actually been a part of something that they come full circle with. I feel we really got the opportunity to do that with Doom this season and give the fans what they have wanted and the payoff to everything that we have built over the last four years. It's something everyone is going to love. The rest of the season is some of our best work. I can't wait for everyone to see that. I will save all the other juice when we talk again."

Doom Patrol follows an unlikely group who have experienced their own traumatic accidents, resulting in both superhuman abilities and physical disfigurement. The Doom Patrol, characterized as a combination of a support group and a superhero team, consists of extraordinary individuals who fight for a world that rejects them due to their unusual powers. The series stars Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Alan Tudyk, Matt Bomer, Brendan Fraser, Timothy Dalton, Joivan Wade, Skye Roberts, Riley Shanahan, Matthew Zuk and Michelle Gomez.

Doom Patrol is available to stream on Max.
